Akwamuhene calls for more investment in nurses, midwives

The Akwamuhene, Odeneho Kwafo Akoto III, has stressed on the need for the state for further commit resources into the training of nurses and midwives in the country in preparation for tougher times ahead.

According to Odeneho Kwafo Akoto III, although the world is about recovering from the COVID-19 pandemic, there are indications of more challenging times in the future.

Speaking as the Special Guest of Honour at the 4th annual dinner and awards night of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) in Accra on Friday, December 15, 2023, he said, nurses and midwives deserve the recognition because of their “immense importance within the health space and in any economy.”GRNMA 2023 Awards

“Looking at where the world has been in terms of the COVID-19 pandemic and the possibility of future pandemics and the ever increasing incidents of non-communicable diseases like hypertension, diabetes mellitus and cancers, it has become more important than ever before, to invest in our nurses and midwives,” he observed.

The Akwamumanhene, who used to be a practicing nurse before moving on to study Health Service Administration added:” What is happening here tonight is, therefore, a good investment by the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association in its members.”

He commended leadership of the GRNMA for ensuring the running of the awards scheme over the past four years without a glitch.

“Ensuring the running of this awards scheme, four years in a row is commendable and I wish to use this opportunity to congratulate the President, Mrs. Perpetual Ofori-Ampofo and her team of executives for keeping this annual national awards going,” he stated.
