NDC has turned Ghana into ‘Kangaroo state’ – Krobea Asante

Must Read

Ghana, under the current National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration led by John Dramani Mahama, is shifting away from its democratic foundations, the Deputy Director of Communications for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), George Krobea Asante, has claimed.

Mr. Asante stated that Ghana, once known for its strong democratic values, is gradually becoming a lawless state, a situation he described as a ‘Kangaroo State’.

Backing his claims, the NPP communicator pointed to what he calls the political persecution of NPP members by the current government as clear evidence.

He referenced the recent detention of the party’s Ashanti Regional Chairman, Mr. Bernard Antwi Boasiako, also known as Chairman Wontumi, and the alleged mistreatment of his legal representatives as a prime example.

“When the police at EOCO picked him [Chairman Wontumi], he was denied access to his lawyers. Only one of them, Lawyer Andy Appiah-Kubi, was allowed in, but all the others were denied access. What kind of Kangaroo State is this? How is this acceptable?” he questioned on the Angel Morning Show (AMS) on Wednesday, May 28, 2025.

Mr. Asante insisted that the actions of the current administration toward Chairman Wontumi are rooted in personal hatred.

“If you listened to my co-NDC panalist and digest his submissions on the subject for discussion, you will come to the reliazation that there is a personnel hatred and agenda agaisnt Chairman Wontumi,” he alleges, referencing submissions made by Deputy Director of Elections of the NDC, Mahdi Girbil on the show.

He warned the NDC to stop what he called “political persecution,” stressing that “power is transient” and they could soon find themselves in the position the NPP currently occupies.

“But there is an adagde that when you see a colleague jaw bein burnt, you have to take a clue from it and look for water to avert yours being also burnt. I remind the NDC that power is transient and they have the power so they think they can use that power to persecute NPP members,” he said.

He added that the NPP does not and will not shield any member found guilty of wrongdoing. However, they opposed the “Rambo-style arrests” and the unjust treatment of its members.
