Chairman Wontumi’s arrest pure hatred against his personality – Krobea Asante

Must Read

Deputy Director of Communications for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), George Krobea Asante, says the treatment being meted out to the party’s Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, stems purely from hatred.

According to Mr. Asante, the manner in which government communicators have approached the issue appears to be driven by personal vendettas rather than any credible effort to find him guilty of the charges leveled against him.

“If you listened to my co-NDC panelist [Mahdi Gibrill] and digested his submissions on the subject, you would come to the realisation that there is personal hatred and an agenda against Chairman Wontumi,” he told Saddick Adams on the Angel Morning Show (AMS) on Wednesday, May 28, 2025.

Mr. Asante, who condemned what he described as a political witch-hunt by the John Mahama-led NDC administration, and warned that such disturbing developments must stop because political power is not permanent.

“There is an adage that says when you see your colleague’s jaw being burnt, you must take a clue and fetch water to prevent yours from also burning. I remind the NDC that power is transient, and though they currently have it, they should not use it to persecute NPP members,” he added.

He remarked that the development has created fear among NPP communicators and social commentators, making it difficult for them to freely express their views.

“Today, if you’re a social media commentator or an NPP communicator and you decide to comment on national issues, fear grips you because of persecution.”

Mr. Asante further expressed concern over what he described as the growing trend of political persecution under the NDC government. He noted that when the NDC was in opposition, its members freely criticized the sitting president without facing any harassment.

“We witnessed the eight-year administration of Nana Addo, during which the NDC accused him of being a tyrant. We also witnessed a period when NDC communicators like Sammy Gyamfi and one Eric Adjei sat on national television to lie about him, bastardize him, and attack the judiciary, but nobody persecuted them.”
