Wontumi’s case shows NDC harbours bitterness against him – Hajia Hamdatu

Must Read

Former Chairperson of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), Hajia Hamdatu Ibrahim, believes that the actions taken by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government against Ashanti Regional Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako, widely known as Chairman ‘Wontumi’, are purely retaliatory.

Madam Hamdatu stated that the circumstances leading to his arrest by officials of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) indicate that some government officials harbor hatred and bitterness towards him.

“If anything, we all know how Chairman Wontumi has troubled the National Democratic Congress (NDC); by all means, they will deal with him if they can, but they should do it lawfully. The leadership of the day should demonstrate maturity and difference to prove to Chairman Wontumi that they will not behave in the same manner he does.”

“I keep saying that some officials at the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) have harboured bitterness, and they are venting it on people around them,” she stated.

She also expressed discomfort over how Chairman Wontumi was allegedly manhandled by EOCO officials after he had honored an invitation from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

“You’ve summoned the person, and he reported; he did not resist arrest. He came on the first day and the second day. When inviting someone, you should not behave as if the person is a hardened criminal, bundling him into a car. This sends a wrong signal,” she expressed.

“If the EOCO wished to take over the matter, perhaps the CID could not continue, but the best course of action would be to invite Chairman Wontumi.”

Hajia Hamdatu Ibrahim urged President John Mahama to intervene and demonstrate leadership by setting a good precedent and lasting legacy, stressing that Ghana must always come first.

“Are we going forward or backward? Look, considering the juncture we have reached, we ought to be bold enough to say enough is enough, because Ghana must come first as we come together to plan the country’s progress.”
