The Director General of the National Sports Authority(NSA), Prof Peter Twumasi has defended his organisation’s decision of rent out the Accra Sports Stadium for Concerts instead allowing the pitch to be used for football activities during last Christmas.
In October 20,2023, the NSA announced there will be no sporting activities at the stadium during December break. The facility was made available for social events including Stonebwoy’s Bhim Concert which earned the NSA an amount of GHC70,000.00.
Unhappy sports enthusiasts took Dr Twumasi to the cleaners over the decision but he has defended the unpopular decision of the Authority.
“We alerted our stakeholders and prompted them about the use of the stadium for social events during the Christmas period…,” he said.
Peter Twumasi argued further that this is not the first time of granting permission for the stadium to be used for non-sporting activities.
“It is something that is done all times and even independence celebrations, that takes place in Baba Yara Sports Stadium, Tamale and Cape Coast Stadium…which negative impact has this brought to us?,” he queried.
