Renowned Hi-life musician, Kaakyire Kwame Fosu known by the stage name KK Fosu, has described himself as a revolutionist of the genre in the country.
According to him, he resuscitated hi-life at a time when it took a nosedive, hence making the genre attractive for other musicians to perform.
Speaking on Adom FM’s Ofie Kwanso, KK Fosu said “I dropped ‘Dat Gyal Boatenmaa’ because I wanted to revive hi-life, and everybody can testify I have done it before. I am a hi-life revolutionist.
“Before we came into the industry, hi-life was slow, so I joined hiplife where I had a different blend of hi-life. It paved the way for others to follow, the likes of Kwabena Kwabena,” he stated.
The ‘Akonaba’ hitmaker buttressing his argument said, although there were great industry players, he managed to find his way out to leave a mark for the current generation.
“Before, there were the Lumbas, Kojo Antwis, Dasaeebres, Amakyes. So, it was not easy to enter but I broke that chain. That was how every youth wanted to do hi-life compared to the times when every youth was shy to sing hi-life.
But I (KK Fosu) stood up, and at a point in time I was compared to the upcoming ones while we were observing from behind, but it’s not easy to be a hi-life King Kong,” he indicated.
KK Fosu, despite his pronouncement, observed that the music genre has lost its originality.
“Hi-life has so many dynamics, our Twi language on a hi-life song is different, and our rhythms are different. Now, we have so many impostors of hi-life. Don’t use English and sing Rythm and Blue (RB) on a hi-life rhythm and think that is hi-life, No!
Because of the business, people accept it like that. As for us, who were trained with hi-life, we understand hi-life,” he maintained.
