The head of legal affairs for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Godwin Edudzi Tameklo, has emphasized the viability of the 24-hour economy initiative proposed by the NDC’s flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama.

Tameklo drew a connection between this proposal and the upcoming pilot court shift system set to commence on March 25, 2024, as announced by the judiciary.

A letter from the office of the Judicial Secretary, dated March 14, 2024, unveiled the implementation of this system across eight selected courts. These courts include High Court ‘1’ and ‘2’ in Adentan, High Court ‘1’ in Nsawam, Circuit Court in Weija, District Courts in La and Teshie, District Courts A & B in Madina, and High Court in Nsawam. The objective of this pilot shift system is to enhance the utilization of court resources, ultimately reducing the backlog of cases and improving efficiency.

The introduction of this initiative has garnered praise from various quarters, with many applauding its potential to alleviate the burden on the courts.

Speaking on the Angel Morning Show on March 25, 2024, Tameklo expressed his views on the judiciary’s plan for a pilot court shift system and added that the pilot is an indication that the 24-hour economy by Mahama is possible.

Tameklo commended this approach, describing it as a positive development. He stated, “We have recently noticed the release of the Chief Justice, advocating for a shift system for certain courts on a pilot basis. That is what some of us believe it as welcoming news.”

Expounding further, Tameklo highlighted that the introduction of the pilot court shift system validates the NDC’s flagship 24-hour economy policy championed by John Dramani Mahama. He suggested that this system indicates the feasibility of Mahama’s vision to establish a framework allowing for round-the-clock economic activities.

Tameklo remarked, “What it also means is that the promise of John Dramani Mahama to introduce what the West practice in the form that allows workers work in the morning, afternoon, evening and in the night is possible.”
