The Ghana Police Service has arrested nine individuals for making claims that certain persons lost their manhood in public.
According to a statement issued by the police, the false claims by the nine suspects led to fear and panic among the public and attacks on innocent citizens.
The Police say preliminary investigations including medical examinations, disclosed that all the claims were false.
Six suspects were arrested in Kasoa in the Central Region: two in Ashaiman in the Greater Accra Region and another in Nkawkaw in the Eastern Region.
While five of them have been arraigned, three have been remanded into police custody. However, two have been granted bail and the rest are on police inquiry bail pending arraignment.
The Ghana Police Service in its statement noted with concern “this increasing trend of people making false claims of the disappearance of their genitals and blaming innocent bystanders”, a situation “that sometimes leads to mob attacks”.
“We wish to caution the public against such criminal conduct that is likely to harm innocent people as well as disturb the public peace”, the police warned in its statement.
