The Local Organising Committee (LOC) of the 2023 African Games has announced that steps are underway to settle the unpaid allowances of volunteers
According to the LOC, they reached an agreement to clear the debts following protests by the volunteers over their unpaid stipends owed them.
The development comes after the volunteers held a demonstration after the end of the games in March, alleging that they had been treated unfairly.
The LOC in a statement said it agreed to pay all the volunteers an allowance of GHC1,000 and an additional GHC200 for transportation.
The statement further urged the volunteers to collaborate Volunteers Sub-Committee’s management to validate their statuses before the close today Monday, April 8, 2024, to enable payment to be made to them.
