Covid-19 Trust Fund receives over GHC53 million from donors

A member of the Board of Trustees of the Covid-19 National Trust Fund, Mrs Gifty Affenyi Dadzie has disclosed that the trust fund has received donations in cash and cheques totalling fifty three million, nine hundred and eleven thousand, two hundred and ninety four cedis eighty seven pesewas (GHC 53, 911, 294.87) an equivalent of six hundred and six thousand US dollars (USD 606,300.00) as at June 2020.

According to Mrs Gifty Affenyi Dadzie, the Trust Fund has distributed more than half of the contributions received so far from donors to support the fight against COVID-19.

“National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has received an amount of two million five hundred Ghana cedis (GHc2.5 million) to support the nationwide education and sensitization campaign on Covid-19 in collaboration with the Ghana Medical Association,” Mrs Dadzie disclosed.

The Board of Trustees of the Covid-19 National Trust Fund have distributed personal preventive equipment (PPE) and other medical items to seven treatment and health centers to support the management and treatment of Covid-19 cases in the country.

The beneficiary institutions are Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), Kumasi South Hospital, Mampong Government Hospital, Obuasi Government Hospital, Sunyani Regional Hospital, Holy Family Hospital, Techiman Hospital and Goaso Hospital.

The items distributed are infra-red thermometer guns, scrub suits, head covers, all sizes of coveralls, heavy duty aprons, disposable aprons, utility gloves, examination gloves, sterile gloves and face masks among others.

Addressing the media at the distribution of the medical items and PPE to the seven treatment and health centers, Mrs Gifty Affenyi Dadzie explained that the distribution of the items forms part of a consignment worth ten million Ghana cedis (GHC10 million) to be distributed to institutions and individuals who are directly engaged in the combat of Covid-19 across the length and breadth of the country.

“The vulnerable and the needy in the society also need support and assistance from Covid-19 Trust Fund. Covid-19 cases in Ghana keep going up and it is a present challenge to all Ghanaians to do everything possible to intensify the collective efforts in the fight against this deadly Covid-19 that is threatening the survival of the entire human race”.

“Mrs Dadzie charged Ghanaians to continue to adhere to all the safety protocols to help reduce the spread of the virus.
