Thirty eight (38) workers of the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) have recovered after contracting the novel corona virus.

A statement dated July 12, 2020, indicates that 39 members of staff tested positive after the FDA organised a mandatory testing for a total of 450 workers including the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), as well as all top management staff.

“All thirty nine (39) staff were asked to go into self -quarantine and those who were in close proximity were also asked to do same and were provided with the necessary logistics to do so,” the statement said.

The statement, signed by Head of Communications and Public Education, James Lartey, added that the 38 staff who have recovered would return to work soon while the remaining one responds to treatment.

Despite the COVID -19 cases among its staff, FDA has assured that it shall not relent on its mandate “to register and enforce the importation, manufacture, distribution and sale of safe and quality products especially PPEs, Face Masks, hand sanitisers, Medicines, Food as well as other medical devices”.

The Authority entreated the general public to patronise its online services by sending their applications and forms via their email; and monitor updates on their (FDA) website. This is to limit face to face interactions and physical contact in FDA offices.
