One person was killed Monday evening following misunderstanding between members of the New Patriotic Party and National Democratic Congress at Banda constituency in the Bono region.

The deceased who was not identified was stabbed four times, Angelonline.com.gh has gathered. The body has since been deposited at the Wenchi Government Hospital morgue.

The confusion started after a registrant was prevented from going through the ongoing voter’s registration exercise over claims that the person hails from the Volta region.

Two police officers were also hit by bullets as members of the two parties shot sporadically in the evening, Bono regional police PRO, Chief Inspector Augustine Kingsley Oppong has confirmed to Angel FM.

According to him, two civilians are currently receiving treatment at the Wenchi Government Hospital after they were knocked down by a car in the course of the melee.

The police has since launched investigations into the incident.

Chief Inspector Augustine Kingsley Oppong was very critical in his admonishment to persons who go to registration centres to foment troubles.

“Registration is not about fighting”, he said, noting that no sound-minded person would engage in a brawl because of a registration exercise.

He has therefore urged people to make use of the challenge forms provided by the Electoral Commission instead of resorting to physical attacks.
