COVID-19 – Confirmed cases at Accra Girls SHS shoot up to 55

The Ghana Education Service and the Ghana Health Service have confirmed that a total of 55 persons have tested positive at Accra Girls Senior High School.

A joint statement on Monday, July 13, 2020, by the two institutions noted that a total of 314 persons from the school including staff and students have been tested for the virus. It is out of this number that the results of 55 turned positive for Covid-19.

According to the Director General of GES, Prof. Kwesi Opoku-Amankwaa and GHS Director General, Dr. Patrick Kuma-Aboagye, who signed the statement, several measures have been put in place to ensure the safety of the staff and students and to curb the spread of Covid-19 at the Accra Girls School.

The statement said similar precautionary measures are being implemented to prevent the spread in other senior high schools in the country.

Beyond Accra Girls Senior High School Covid-19 cases, other senior high schools have recorded confirmed positive cases of Covid-19.

And per statistical reports from the Ghana Health Service, Ghana has recorded over 25,000 Covid-19 cases with 21,067 recoveries, 3,782 active and 139 death tolls.
