The Electoral Commission of Ghana (EC) says it has detected an incident where the same Voters ID numbers were issued to two different applicants at two registration centres within the Okaikwei North District.

The EC’s checks revealed that “a faulty kit that had its unique identity transferred to a back up kit was inadvertently released to the District Officer after it had been repaired without creating a new identity for it.”

This anomaly led to two kits with the same identity issuing the same Voters ID numbers to some applicants.

A circular from the EC further stated that sixty-three (63) applicants who have been affected by this anomaly have been identified.

The EC noted that affected applicants would not be disenfranchised on the day of voting.

The Commission explained that the applicants have unique biodata and biometrics.

They assured the general public that this incident would not occur again as steps have been taken to avert future occurrences.
