Two Lance Corporals of the Ghana Police Service stationed at the Obuasi District Police Command are feared drowned in a river while returning from operational duties.

They are G/L/Cpl. Stephen Kyeremeh and G/L/Cpl. Amedius Akwesi Boateng.

According to a police wireless report, the two, together with two other officers, were dispatched to Krobro, a village near Jacobu after the police received a distress call about a robbery activity.

“Isaac Nyamekye and No. 39708 G/Sgt. James Ahiman who were on Obuasi-Dunkwa highway patrol duties upon distress call that some small scale miners had been attacked by armed robbers proceeded to Kobro.”

The officers in an effort to get to the scene, hired a canoe to cross the Oda River to the site where the robbery attack was reported to have occurred.

The robbers however escaped upon seeing the police, the police report said.

While returning, the canoe capsized with four policemen onboard but two of them, G/Sgt. Isaac Nyamekye and G/Sgt. James Ahiman managed to swim to safety.

The two corporals have been reported missing.

“On their way back, the canoe on which all were on board capsized and the two sergeants managed to swim ashore whilst the other two Lance Corporals together with their service rifles are yet-to-be traced.”
