The Governing Council for the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS), has expressed disappointment at the “ill -informed comments and personalised attacks against its Vice Chancellor, Professor John Gyapon, by the NDC’s Volta Regional Chairman, Henry Ametefe.

The Council noted that Mr. Ametefe, in a televised press conference by the NDC, accused the VC of “doing so many dirty things by removing ‘Voltarians'” while other Voltarians including Togbe Afede, looked on.

According to the Council, the remarks of Mr. Ametefe were further commented upon by a report in the June 29, 2020 edition of Daily Guide newspaper as follows:

“We have put Abomosu citizen as our Vice Chancellor. I know he’s doing so many dirty things there with removing Voltarians, but all our people are quiet – Togbe Afede and all of them -why?”

The Governing Council refuted the claims maintaining that, such practices are at variance with its vision of building a university of international repute hence, cannot be supported by the Council.

This was captured in a statement dated July 10, and signed by the Registrar and Secretary to the Council, Dr Cynthia Sena Kpeglo.

The Council further affirmed its confidence in the “character, professional capabilities and managerial acumen” of Professor Gyapon.

“The high moral character, integrity, competence and efficiency in managing the university has earned Professor Gyapon a renewal of his tenure for another two years, to expire in July 2022”, the statement read.

The Council finally expressed its willingness to openly address any additional concerns of Mr. Ametefe or members of the public, regarding the administration of UHAS. It assured that UHAS will continue to remain apolitical in its dealings.
