Most Ghanaians used Ghana Card to register  – EC Boss

The Electoral Commission (EC) has disclosed that 60.09% of citizens out of the over 16 million persons used the Ghana Card for the just ended voter registration exercise.

At a press briefing organized by the Commission at its head office, the EC said, “the region with the highest number of persons who used the Ghana Card is the Oti Region where 79.1% of the registered population presented the Ghana card”.

The EC Chairperson, Jean Mensa, stated that the Oti Region was closely followed by the Eastern Region where 78.5% of applicants presented the Ghana card, while Western North Region came in third with 76.9%.

Meanwhile, the commission declared the Bono East Region as leading with the highest use of the Guarantor system with a percentage of 58.5.

According to the EC chairperson, the Bono Region and Ahafo Region both recorded 57.7 percent of the registered population using the Guarantor system and persons who registered with their passports stood at 1.92%.

Touching on the gender dynamics, the EC boss stated that their statistics showed that women make up 51.73% of the register whilst their male counterparts make up the 48.27%.

At the end of the registration exercise 8,775,609 women registered, compared to 8,187,698 men.
