Delete our names if you can’t serve us quality food – JHS pupils protest

Some final year students of Kanitinkyiren D/A Junior High School in the Atwima Kwanwoma District of the Ashanti Region have complained bitterly about the quality of food being served them as part of government’s free hot meal.

President Akufo-Addo last week announced government’s decision to provide final year Junior High School (JHS) students and teachers with one hot meal a day. It started on Monday, August 24, 2020.

The beneficiaries in the Ashanti Region were served a pack of jollof rice and one egg.

But some students of Kanitinkyiren D/A JHS who refused to eat the food that was served, explained to Pure FM’s Osei Kwadwo: “We couldn’t eat the food which was served to us yesterday because of its quality”.

Another person said “the food was tasteless because the caterers didn’t cook it well”.

“President Akufo-Addo’s intention to provide us one hot meal everyday was very good but the problem is the quality of the food. Yesterday we couldn’t eat the food because it was tasteless and they didn’t cook the food well. If we will be served this type of food everyday then they should delete our names from the free hot meal policy because we won’t eat the food” one students re-echoed the concern of the colleagues.

Some of them said because of the free hot meal, their parents have reduced their pocket money and “we are expecting the caterers to serve us quality food”.

Similar sentiments were expressed by students of St. Cyprian’s Anglican JHS ‘A’ under the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly who also rejected the food that was served.

Meanwhile, the students have appealed the government, Ghana Education Service to monitor and ensure that the caterers cook quality food.
