Vice President of the Republic of Ghana, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has cut sod for the construction of the PTC Interchange in Takoradi in the Western Region of Ghana.

The PTC roundabout, he said, is part of three roundabouts that are on the periphery of the Central Business District of Takoradi with the others being Paa Grant and the Shippers roundabouts.

Speaking at the sod cutting ceremony, Dr. Bawumia said, traffic data from the Ministry of Roads and Highways indicates that the PTC and Paa Grant roundabouts are increasingly congested, hence the need for the construction of the PTC Interchange.

“Traffic data from the Ministry of Roads and Highways indicates that PTC and Paa Grant roundabouts are increasingly congested. This can be attributed to the rapid growth of traffic within the twin cities as a result of the general improvement in the economy because of Ghana’s Oil fine and Takoradi’s pivotal roads as the oil of the country”, he stated.

“It is therefore important for us as government to upgrade the roundabout to an interchange to help minimize congestion”, Dr. Bawumia added.

According to the Vice President, the construction of the PTC Interchange is part of the master support agreement between the Government of Ghana and Sino-Hydro Construction.

Giving highlights of the agreements, he said, the first phase of the Sino-Hydro Construction of the infrastructural project will cover 441kms of roads and two interchanges.

“The two interchanges include the Tamale Interchange which is the first interchange in the Northern Region and the PTC Interchange which is also the first interchange in the Western Region of Ghana,” he said during the sod cutting ceremony.

The Vice President also noted that this interchange will bring to six the number of interchanges that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government has started in their first term of office.

“We are working on the Tema, Obetsebi Lamptey, Pokuase, Nungua and Tamale Interchange”.

He went ahead to urge Ghanaians to give Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo- Addo and the NPP government four more years to do more.
