The National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for Ayawaso West Wougon, John Dumelo has accused some authorities for trying to sabotage the electoral process and cause his downfall in the elections.

According to the NDC candidate, as at 9am, there were no ballot materials in some of the polling centres within his strongholds, which he believes is a ploy to prevent his supporters from coming out to vote.

Though he did not reveal the identity of the supposed authorities, John Dumelo was convinced that some unexplained events within his constituency strongholds are calculated at ensuring he loses to the NPP parliamentary candidate, Lydia Alhassan.

“I think there is a deliberate attempt to frustrate the process. I mean if you go to some of our strongholds in East Legon, if you go to polling centres at Kpalaga as at nine the ballot materials were not there. I went to the GIMPA polling station and there was no indelible ink for the people to be able to dip their fingers in [and thumbprint] which is wrong. Why shouldn’t there be indelible ink at the polling centre?”, he stated.

He questioned why there was no indelible ink or available lids for ballot boxes in some polling stations within only his strongholds

John Dumelo therefore suggested that the voting process to be halted in one of the polling centres at GIMPA until the Electoral Commission rectifies the issues to prevent the incidence of double voting.

He added that, “I have been trying to call the EC authorities but I haven’t been able to reach them and so I let some of my colleagues to go to the EC and it was when they went to the EC office that they were able to insist that some of these materials come to the polling stations”.
