The Second leg of the CAF Champions League match between Al-Hilal Omdurman and Kumasi Asante Kotoko has been called off due to Covid-19 positive cases in the camp of the porcupine warriors.

The match was set to kick off at 1:00pm Ghana Time and 3:00pm Sudan.

However, players from both teams failed to appear on the pitch at the Al Hilal stadium as eight players from the Ghanaian-based team have reportedly tested positive for corpona virus.

According to a post on the official twitter handle of the interim Kotoko communications manager David Obeng Nyarko, “The minimum number of team players required for a CAF Champions League match is 15. Asante Kotoko travelled with a list of 22 players. Out of which 8 players are alleged to be COVID positive therefore reducing squad size to 14 players”.

Meanwhile, CAF’s regulation on COVID stipulates that, “if a team does not have the minimum number of players (11 players including 1 goalkeeper +4 substitutes) to play a match, the team will be considered to have lost the match 2-0.

According to a statement released by Kotoko, the porcupine warriors have filed an official protest through the Ghana Football Association to CAF.
