Full Details: How Policeman guarding GCB Bullion van was killed by Armed Robbers

A professional teacher and an Assembly Member for Adansi Nyankomasu electoral area who was eyewitness to the robbery incident that took the life of a young police officer escorting a bullion van of the GCB Bank has given a full account of the robbery incident.

Speaking to Yaa Kyeraa on Angel FM’s Morning Show, the Assemblyman who teaches at the Adanse Nyankomasu R.C. Primary School said he joined forces with some of his students to embark on a cleanup exercise upon reopening of schools.

According to him, they heard a gunshot 30 minutes into the cleanup exercise but the shot was mistaken for a hunter on hunting expedition but the gunshots become repetitive making the pupils bolt from their playgrounds to their classrooms.

One of the pupils who also heard of the sporadic gunshots, he added, rushed to the meeting room of the teachers and informed them of the happenings which was making them fear for their lives.

“So the teachers sent all the students to the JHS side of the school, about 100 metres from the primary but upon second thought, we finally sent all the children home to avoid any casualties,” he said.

The Assemblyman who only introduced himself as Stephen claimed that one of the robbers positioned himself behind the school and started to shoot indiscriminately, in a bid to prevent the town folks from approaching causing the residents to inform the police at Fomena about the incident.

He added that prior to the arrival of the Police, a vehicle which they suspect might have been driven to the location by the robbers was spotted in the area with four people who were seen holding a wooden box, enter the bush.

“At that moment, the police arrived so we followed the police to pursue the 4 people. They came into contact with two other police officers who informed them that a colleague police officer has been shot in the car, as they themselves have also sustained gunshot wounds,” he recounted.

At this point, the assemblyman for the Adanse Nyankomasu electoral area retreated and called for a taxi to send the wounded policemen to the hospital. Upon his return, he saw the lifeless body of the young police officer.

Although he could not put a number to the people who were involved in the robbery but claimed that they would not be less than five adding that it would be difficult to identify the robbers due to distance.

As at now, no one has been arrested and no one knows the amount of money that has been made away by the robbers.
