The President, Nana Akufo-Addo described as ‘excellent’ and ‘well-reasoned’ the ruling of the Supreme Court on the Election Petition at the State of the Nation Address (SONA).

The seven member panel in a unanimous decision ruled that the President, Nana Akufo-Addo was legitimately elected in the 2020 elections after two months of litigation in the court.

This was after the Presidential Candidate of the NDC, John Dramani Maham filed a petition at the Supreme Court demanding that the court declare that the President did not attain the constitutionally required 50 per cent plus one to be declared President.

Commenting on the ruling in his 2021 SONA, the President said that ruling of the Judges is ‘excellent’.

“I am particularly delighted as this Message is the first of my 2nd term, the validity of which was unanimously upheld last week in a well-reasoned and excellent ruling by a seven member panel of the Supreme Court, presided over by the Chief Justice, on 4th March 2021,” he said.

He further called on Ghanaians to accept the ruling of the court and move on in unity.

“The Supreme Court, for example, last week determined the challenge to the validity of the 2020 presidential election, and affirmed its validity in a unanimous decision. The Court has spoken. It is time for all of us to move on, and, in a united manner, confront the problems of post-COVID Ghana,” he urged.
