The Omanhene of Esikador, Nana Kobina Nketsia V, has bemoaned the state in which the activities of illegal small scale miners and chainsaw operators have left the Ghanaian environment.

According to the Omanhene, the issue is exasperating and raises questions about the nation’s future, if today the country bears some of the consequences of the illegal activities.

He said: “For good intentions our fathers have left the trees for hundreds of years and within some five minutes, you use chainsaw to cut down the trees. If today we are suffering, what of tomorrow, how dire will the consequences be?

“Go to Wassa and beyond and observe how the environment is today. The top soil is completely destroyed. And the top soil is our everything. It is the source of our food. When you are speaking of the illegal mining activities, it tends to provoke your emotions.”

Nana Nketsia therefore encouraged Mr. Jinapor to fight the illegalities while pledging his support for him.

“You have my blessings and I know you can do it, because there is no work on earth that a man cannot do, if he has the will to do it,” he concluded.
