GPL REVIEW: Hearts close gap on top spot after Kotoko draw

Two points separate Kumasisi Asante Kotoko (45 points) and arch rivals Accra Hearts of Oak (43 points) after the Match – Day 25  of the Ghana Premier League 2020/2021 season.

Ismail Ganiyu’s late goal helped league leaders, Kumasi Asante Kotoko record a vital away draw against Liberty Professionals in Sogakope.
Coach Barreto (Kotoko) was hoping to extend their lead at the top spot but the Dansoman based club held them to 1-1 tie.

Amadu Adamu and Prosper Ahiabu (Liberty) tried their efforts with a shot on 13th and 20th minutes respectively but to no avail.
On the 36th minutes, former Kotoko player Evans Owusu put the hosts in front with a long range drive after trying on many occasions to get a goal.

The home side ended the break with a 1-0 lead after the visitors were held.
The Warriors controlled the second half with a lot of short passes in search of an opening goal.
Andy Kumi (Kotoko) was fouled at the edge of the opponent box. Ganiyu heads in the resulting kick to make it 1-1 draw on the 83rd minutes as the points were shared at WAFA Park.

Hearts of Oak beat Elmina Sharks at the Accra Sports Stadium to record three consecutive wins after closing gap at the top spot.
The Phobians had a corner just a few minutes into the game, Salifu takes it but Obeng Jnr heads its wide as they start to mount pressure on Sharks.
The visitors (Sharks) scored the opener on the 30th minutes but Augustine Owusu goal was flagged off for offside.

Hearts of Oak awarded a penalty just on the stroke of half time after Elmina Sharks midfielder Isaac Donkor was red carded for handling a goal bound from Obeng Junior in the box.
Victor Aidoo missed the chance to put his side into the lead after his kick was saved by Suad Bawa Martey.
It was goalless at half time, both teams failing to score at the half.

In the 60th minutes, Issac Mensah (Hearts) capitalizes on an error from Hearts keeper to put his side into the lead.
Benjamin Afutu doubled the lead on the 76th minutes with a header from a close range freekick.
The game ended 2-0 in favour of the Hearts of Oak on the day.

Ashanti Gold thumped Great Olympics by a lone goal at the Obuasi Len Clay Stadium.
Stephen Banahene scored the only goal on the 54th minutes to help his side record a massive 1-0 home win over the away team (Olympics).
The Dade boys go two straight games without a win after losing to Aduana Stars in midweek as they drop to 5th on the league log.

Tarkwa based club, Medeama SC have lost twice and drawn one in his last three games after been beaten yet again by Aduana Stars at the Nana Agyemang Badu Stadium in Dormaa.
First half goals from Samuel Bioh and Sam Adams on the 8th and 27th minutes respectively sinked the away team (Medeama).
Medeama SC dropped to 4th position as the Ogya boys go 6th on the league log.

Bottom side, Inter Allies dismantled Berekum Chelsea by 5 goals to 0 at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Alex Esso scored twice in the first 4 minutes into the game while Richmond Armah, Samuel Lamptey and Suleman Nafui also registering their names on the score sheet in the second department of the game.
