GHPL: Mass promotion of referees the cause of poor officiating in the league- Ex top Referee insists

Former Ghana Premier League top official, Rahman Fallalu is of the view that the abysmal performance of referees in the ongoing top flight football is as a result of wholesale promotion of referees after the famous Anas Aremeyaw Ana’s expose.

According to the ex referee who got banned from officiating the beautiful game after been caught for taking bribe, it would take time before such predicament is solved since the mass promotion of referees after Anas expose has condoned with inexperience officials.

Mr. Rahman, following this, noted that since ‘To err is human’, mistakes can not be eradicated from the sport [football], thus, with time, support and patience, referees would gain the need experience in a matured manner.

“The wholesale promotion of referees after Anas’s Expose is the cause of officiating problems in the Ghana League”

“The mistakes are bound to happen, but with time they will grow, We should help them” he told Saddick Adams on floodlight sports.

Moreover, he recalled the process he undertook to learn on the job before officially being given the nod to handle games in the top-flight football.

“When I got promoted from division one during my time, I spent 3 years to understudy before I got the chance to officiate matches”

“The referees appointment committee should know the matches and the type of referees to officiate those games” Mr. Rahman advised.
