The 2000 Year Group of St. Thomas Aquinas Senior High School has donated an undisclosed amount of money to the school’s Science and Maths Quiz team.

The donation by the old boys, affectionately called Old Toms, was to spur the team on to win trophies, especially the upcoming National Science and Math Quiz competition slated for October.

The donation was made during the 2000 Old Toms quarterly meeting last week attended by the Headmaster of the School Mr Amoasi Baidoo, Old Toms National President OT 73 John Amuzu, and Facilitator of the school’s NSMQ Selorm Rockson.

Dr Nene Narh Hargoe, Ag. Artistic Director, Ghana Dance Ensemble, Institute of African Studies, who made the donation on behalf of the 2000 Old Toms observed that the gesture was in fulfillment of the year group’s decision to adopt the school’s science team.

Headmaster, Mr Amoasi Baidoo thanked the Old Toms for the kind gesture and encouraged the group to keep it up.

“We are grateful for the support you have been giving to the school. I pray to God to give you the energy and strength to come back and support your alma mater.”

The headmaster also briefed the old boys on some issues and challenges facing the school and preparations so far with the science team.

The NSMQ facilitator, Selorm Rockson underscored that the team “are always inspired to know that we are not alone.

“As the saying goes, God is an Old Tom. We want to assure you and continue to tell you that solidly we continue to work fearlessly, we are not scared of any school. I want to assure you that your support will go a long way.”

The President of the National Association, Mr. John Amuzu commended the 2000 Year Group for their commitment towards the welfare of Aquinas Senior High School.

He informed the gathering that the school’s 70th anniversary celebration which was supposed to have been launched in March 2021 during the School’s Speech and Prize Day could not come off due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The new date for the launching is slated for July 2021 and the celebration will take place early 2022.

He urged all the year groups to organize resources for the celebration. The anniversary needs initial funds of GHc 200,000 to begin preparation. The president also acknowledged the contributions of some year groups to the school, notably 1986 and 1988 year groups. He mentioned that these two year groups have contributed GHc 4000 each towards the 2021 NSMQ competition. He also mentioned that the 2001 year group have decided to paint the whole school before the 70th celebration.

President of 2000 Year Group, Sylvester Romeo Martey implored the national president to use his office to ensure that monies given to the school for certain specific projects were geared towards those projects.

Meanwhile, the Old Toms meeting adopted the Year Group’s Constitution and Welfare Scheme. The meeting was attended by members in Ghana as well as those in diaspora via zoom.
