The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) calls for calm among Ghanaians, particularly those living in the Northern sector of the country, ahead of an anti-terrorism training exercise to be undertaken within the region.

The exercise, dubbed “Exercise Eagle Claws 2021,” is a four-day training programme scheduled to begin from Monday, 24 to Friday, 28 May 2021.

In a statement singed and issued by the Director of Public Relations, E. Aggrey-Quashie, the GAF indicated that the purpose of the exercise is to prepare towards countering terrorism and other threats to the country’s security.

The statement read: “The High Command intends to use this year’s exercise to equip troops with the requisite capacity to respond rapidly and effectively to terrorists and contemporary threats in the “Operation Conquered Fist” Area of Operation as well as other parts of the country.”

In furtherance of above, there will be “movement of military personnel and hardware to the designated areas” within the period, which action is likely to cause some fear and panic—the reason for the notice.

The exercise will be in collaboration with other security and intelligence agencies, according to the statement.

They however urge the public to help protect the country’s security by passing on information to appropriate agencies on terrorists and related elements.
