The Ghana Medical Association (GMA) has revealed that a total of nine (9) Ghanaian doctors succumbed to the COVID-19 pandemic in the past 12 months.

According to the association, their members died of the disease after contracting the disease in the course of work.

Five hundred and forty (540) doctors have so far contracted the virus over the same period.

The GMA made the statistics available while commenting on the recent breach of the OVID-19 protocols by football fans at various stadia and also by politicians who attended the final funeral rights of late former General Secretary of the NPP, Lawyer Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, Sir John.

The GMA therefore called on government to lift the OVID-19 protocols which are currently in place if it thinks it has vaccinated enough people despite the figures showing Ghana is not out of the woods yet.

According to the Deputy General Secretary of the GMA, Dr. Titus Beyuo him, the GMA “called for the heads” of the leaders of the Christ Embassy after their massive outreach programme and therefore the GMA would not stop at calling on the police to arrest the organizers.

The GMA has further urged the Inspector General of Police IGP, to arrest and prosecute the participants of the events.
