Minister for Justice and Attorney General, Godfred Yeboah Dame, has pledged his support for Kissi Agyebeng in ensuring that the Special Prosecutor’s office is fully equipped for effective work.

Mr. Dame made the statement when the Special Prosecutor paid a working visit to him on Tuesday August 31, 2021.

He said: “I pledge to you my intention not to interfere with your work and I will not do that at all. I recognise your independence and I will make sure all the help you require is given to you from recruitment of competent personnel to budgetary allocation.”

Mr. Kissi Agyebeng commenting, expressed concerns about the gratuities of his workers. According to him the staff are poorly paid and that could be a challenge in fighting corruption and corruption related offences.

“I have about 9 workers including drivers and cleaners, one Prosecutor on secondment from your office, one investigator n secondment from the Police…You can’t fight corruption with poorly paid staff and staff on secondment. It will be a lost battle,” he said.

That notwithstanding, he made known to Mr. Dame that his office is currently reviewing all cases before it.

The visit became necessary when the office of the SP, according to section 3 (f) of Special Prosecutor Act (Act 959), is expected to co-operate with the Attorney General’s office and other local and foreign bodies in the performance of his duties.
