Public Relations Officer for Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly, Madam Henrietta Afia Konadu Aboagye, has said that Police in the area would arrest persons selling expired chicken.

According to her, police in the metropolis have began investigations to arrest and prosecute individuals who are caught selling or patronizing unwholesome chicken.

This follows the arrest of two persons by officers of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly for selling unwholesome chicken.

Some of the spoiled frozen chicken ready to be transported

The suspects were one trader identified as Abiba who had purchased 15 cartons of chicken from one Kwadwo Asare, an operator of a cold store at Adakwame Lorry Station.

Madam Henrietta narrated that a security guard of KMA became suspicious due to the foul smell from the chicken being transported by Abiba to her intended destination at Asuofua, Adakwame and Kejetia.

She noted that tests by the Environmental Health Department proved that the chicken had expired and was not good for human consumption.

Speaking on ‘SisoBio’ weekend news on Angel FM, the PRO disclosed that the suspect Abiba confessed that she knew the chicken had gone bad before purchasing them, but would treat them with ‘sudee’ before roasting them for her customers.

“Yes she[Abiba] confirmed that the chicken was expired and so she was going to apply “Sudee” to it before proceeding to roast and cook as she does at funeral grounds” the PRO told News Anchor, Naa Atswei Oduro.
