Residents of Kotwe in the Atwima Kwawomah District of the Ashanti Region have expressed disappointment in the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) for taking close to four hours to respond to their distress call.
The fire started around 10am on Thursday, September 9, 2021, and no casualties have been recorded at the time of this report.
However, some of the patients on admission run for their lives while other patients who could not walk were evacuated and transported to other hospital facilities.
“We called the Fire Service when the fire began but the fire tenders took about four hours to respond to our call. They came after it was too late and I even helped to evacuate some of the patients so that they are not trapped. They [Fire Service] haven’t done well at all”, an eyewitness narrated the incident to Angel TV’s reporter, Bismark Mensah.
Prior to the arrival of the Fire Service, some of the hospital workers attempted to put out the fire with fire extinguishers but due to its intensity, they were unsuccessful.
No patient, according to the Regional NADMO Administrator, Nana Attakora Kodua, was hurt.
