The Awutu Bereku District Police Command has arrested two suspects over an alleged assault on a 42-year-old man who later died at Awutu Bosomabena, a suburb of Awutu Bereku in the Awutu Senya West District of the Central Region.

According to an earlier report by Angel FM, the two suspects Kwaku Gyarteh and Kwashie Agyepong, had engaged in a scuffle with the victim, Christopher Avedzi, over a bread knife. One of the assailants was said to have wiped the victim’s bread knife with the palm of his hand which resulted in a heated argument between the two. The assailant then gathered a mob who attacked Christopher.

Confirming the arrest of the suspects to Angel FM’s, Opayin Darko, the Awutu Bereku District Police Commander, Chief Superintendent Joshua Semanyo, revealed that the two are undergoing investigation following the reported death of Christopher which the family believed was in connection with the assault.

“Some few months ago, a man came to lodge a complaint of an assault and was issued a police medical form to attend hospital and report but he never returned. So a month later, he fell sick and was rush to hospital where he was receiving treatment but died.

“Family members came that it was a result of that assault that’s why he died. So we started the investigation and did postmortem, and today they pointed to us the one they claim assaulted him so we have arrested him and one other person.” he explained.

Meanwhile, sister of the deceased, Cecilia Avedzi, has called on the acting Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Dampare Akuffo to intervene and seek justice for her deceased brother.
