A woman believed to be in her early 40s has met her untimely death after a water tanker with car registration number Aw 1047-Z ran over her while attempting to cross the Kasoa Obom new market road around Free Town Junction on Friday, 17 September 2021.

According to reports, Amaria—the only name the victim is known by—was returning home from the market when the incident occurred, leaving her brain strewn on the ground.

The eyewitnesses recounted that while attempting to cross, an Okada rider approaching her stopped to make way for the victim, but the tanker which was speeding failed to heed the rider’s warning signs to stop leading to the crash.

“The driver was fast approaching so I prompted my partner to wait for the car to pass. Then, the motor rider was also stopping for the woman to cross, but the driver failed to slow down and stop so it crashed into both the motor rider and the woman, leading to her death,” an eyewitness recounted.

Deputy Police commander for Central East police command, ACP Oduro Amaning, who was at the scene confirmed to Angel News reporter Opanyin Darko that the driver of the said car is in police custody while his car has been taken to Kasoa police station for further investigations.

Cautioning drivers, ACP Oduro said they have to “be patient with riders on the roads because whether we like it or not, they have become part of the road users,” adding that “there are some who misbehave on the road, but not all do. So applying a one-cap-fits-all approach will not inure to the benefit of all.”

He however called on the family of the deceased to come for the body of their lost relative for burial, since she is a Muslim and must be buried according to their rites.
