A 52-year old man who fathers four children has allegedly committed suicide by hanging in his room after separating from his wife at Akyem Achiase in the Achiase District of the Eastern region.

According to brother in-law of the deceased, Stephen Kwaku Ofori, the late Francis Akwasi Kumi was supposed to be in bed in the room they both shared, but was nowhere to be found in the middle of the night when he [Stephen] woke up to ease himself.

He added: “After searching the compound and his home where he lived before moving to our place, following the disagreements that occurred between himself and his wife, we couldn’t find him.

“Neighbours who lived with him in his mother’s house before he moved out said some children reported that they had found someone [Francis] in the home. So a friend called me to inform me and when I went I saw him hanging”, Stephen narrated in an interview Francis Armah.

He further revealed that the wife of the deceased, Akosua Oburaa, divorced him after he lost his job was battling with severe waist pains. Stephen noted that Francis in in the midst of the situation was staying in the same house with her, which he supposed could have been the main reason for him taking his own life.

The firstborn son of the deceased Raphael Kumi (24) speaking to the media attributed the action of his late father to some spiritual manipulations and emotional problems.

“When I looked at my father, he appeared fit. I don’t think he was sick. Maybe it has got to do with something spiritual or he was worrying about something which could have influenced his actions.”
