The Cape Coast Metropolitan Assembly in the Central Region, has rejected President Akufo-Addo’s Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE) nominee for the area.

Ernest Arthur was part of 22 names Nana Akufo-Addo presented as his chosen representatives in the Central Region’s assemblies for approval per the stipulations of Article 243 (1) of the 1992 Constitution.

It reads: “There shall be a District Chief Executive for every district who shall be appointed by the President with the prior approval of not less than two-thirds majority of members of the Assembly present and voting at the meeting.”

In respect of the above, the Cape Coast Metropolitan Assembly, having cast their ballot with 65 votes of members present out of 68 members in total for the assembly, saw Ernest Arthur garnering 34 votes– 9 votes short to pass for MCE.
