President Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has stated that, the performance of the Commissioner of Police [COP] Dr George Akuffo Dampare so far has justified his decision in appointing him as the Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP).

According to him, the actions of the latter after assuming office as acting IGP has vindicated the confidence he reposed in Mr. Dampare.

President Akufo-Addo made this comment on Friday, October 1, 2021 during Ghana Police Services graduation ceremony of the 50th cadet officers’ course of the Ghana Police Service.

Addressing the gathering, the Commander-in-Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces, commended the Acting IGP for his tremendous actions taken so far amidst support from the government.

“I cannot end without reiterating the support of government for the recent actions taken by the acting Inspector General of Police, George Akuffo Dampare, which are eliciting strong backing from the population.

“He has, so far, vindicated my decision to repose trust in him to hold this high office.

“I am confident that, once the necessary processes are done completed, which I am sure will soon, he will become our nation’s 23rd Inspector General of Police” he noted.

He then assured Ghanaians that, with his trust vested in the Police and other security services, they will lay down all measures to abruptly end the current violent happenings going on in some parts of the country.

“I am aware that recent incidents of violent crimes in some parts of the country have generated safety and security concerns from several sections of the public”

“I want to assure Ghanaians that the police service, and, indeed, all the other security services, are determined to deal decisively with the threats posed by dangerous criminals and criminals.

That notwithstanding, he said the fight against crime is a collective responsibility in the country, hence, called on the general public to rally their support behind the security services to help end the growing cancer.

“We can help them [Police] succeed in this endeavour if we urge the Police and other security services on, and give them as much as support and co-operation in the fight as we can.

Mr. Dampare George Akuffo Dampare was appointed by President Akufo-Addo in July, 2021 as the Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP) after directing the Inspector General of Police, Mr. James Oppong Boanuh to embark on a terminal leave which took effect on August 1st, pending his retirement from the service on Thursday, 7th October 2021.
