Security for Member of Parliament for Madina Constituency, Francis Xavier-Sosu has been apprehended by the Ghana Police Service.

The Police officer Inspector Daniel Agbavor was arrested over a misconduct he is alleged to have been engaged in last Monday, when some personnel from the Police Service attempted to arrest the MP.

If it would be recalled, during the demonstration led by Mr. Sosu in the La Nkwantanang-Madina Municipality over bad road networks in the area, some protestors blocked some stretches and burnt tires as part of expressing their frustrations.

This the Police found unlawful and attempted to arrest the leader of the demonstrators to answer to the actions of the constituents.

However, the Deputy Ranking Member on the Constitutional, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Committee resisted the arrest arguing that there was a letter of protest and demonstration served the Ghana Police Service, adding “the public protest comes in all kinds of ways”.

When tension was mounting up between the MP and the officers on the arrest mission, Inspector Agbavor allegedly drove him away in an unprofessional manner.

The Assistant Commissioner of Police Kwesi Ofori, said the incident nearly resulted in the running over of two officers and some members of the public at the scene.

“He is alleged to have recklessly driven into a crowd after a protest last Monday, 25th October 2021, in the Madina Constituency, directly endangering the lives of two Senior Officers and other civilians” a statement issued by ACP Ofori who is Director-General of Public Affairs has said.

Mr. Agbavor currently is in police custody while the Parliamentary Protection Unit has been tasked to assign new guard to the MP.
