The family of former President, Flt. Lt. Jerry John Rawlings, has announced a Remembrance Mass at the Holy Spirit Cathedral to mark the first anniversary of his passing.

The mass is scheduled to take place on Friday, November 12, 2021, exactly a year since the ex-President passed away.

According to a statement signed by former aide to the late ex-President, the mass would kickstart at 9:00 AM and all guests are expected to be clad in a white attire.

The aide, Mr. Kobina Andoh Amaka, extended the invitation to friends, sympathisers as well as members of the public to join in the commemoration.

“Due to Covid-19 requirements the Holy Spirit Cathedral will host a limited number of congregants. Seating will thus be on a first come, first served basis”, he said.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC), in a similar fashion, has stated that the day would be marked by some earmarked activities.

The General Secretary of the party, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, in a statement issued noted that at its meeting on October 26, 2021, the Executive Committee of the party decided that the anniversary should be commemorated at all party levels.

“That 12th November, 2021 should be observed with various activities, including vigils and mass gatherings, with strict adherence to the COVID-19 protocol, to commemorate the event,” it said.

The regional offices of the party have been directed to ensure proper planning towards the anniversary.

President Jerry John Rawlings passed away at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital on Thursday, November 12, 2020 after a short illness.

Prior to his passing, he served as President of the Republic for two consecutive terms from 1993 to 1996 and 1996 to 2001 after winning the 1992 presidential election on the ticket of the NDC.

The Flight Lieutenant was the first President of the Fourth Republic before handing over to former President John Agyekum Kufuor.
