Former President, John Dramani Mahama, has lamented that Ghana as a country is heading into a ditch due largely to the mismanagement of the country’s economy by the Akufo-Addo administration.

In a public address to thank the 6.2million Ghanaians who voted for him in the 2020 election, the ex-Ghanaian leader said that the gross mismanagement of the country’s economy by the adminstration has had a debilitating toll on the performance of the economy.

“I’ve interacted with Ghanaians across the political and socio-economic divide and experienced the challenges that they are going through both in rural and urban communities. Throughout this interactions, one thing has become resoundingly clear and it is that our country is not on the right part. “We are clearly headed for a major ditch if immediate action to reverse the trend…,” he said.

He attributed this to the eight major problems facing the economy which the present administration has ignored.

“The most pressing problem is the impact of the ailing economy on livelihoods, prospects and dreams. The consequences of misguided priorities in economic management have led to unbearable hardship, high unemployment and the frustration and despair felt by millions of the youth” Mr. Mahama said.

He added: “The others include the bastardisation and politicisation of state institutions. The mounting corruption, rising insecurity, abuse of power, lack of investment in critical infrastructure and abandonment of projects and heavy-handed governance,” he enumerated.
