Momo tax will further burden Ghanaians – Minority Leader
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

The Minority Leader in Parliament, Haruna Iddrissu, has stated that the Ghanaian economic system cannot bear the hardships from the ruling NPP government anymore.

When asked to give their input on the Agyenkwa budget presented by the Finance Minister, the Tamale South MP stated that “Mr. Speaker, krom ay3 shi” to wit the system is hot.

“It is only the Honourable Ken Ofori-Atta who ironically eases burdens to quote his words that there is no emotion about the suffering of Ghanaians yet he is imposing further suffering, imposing a 1.75 momo electronic banking tax”, he declared.

He further stated that “it is only Ken Ofori-Atta who eases sufferings with impositions of new taxes targeted at GHC15 billion within this period but Mr. speaker, with this promise of unsustainable debts, increased sufferings and hardships beyond CST Communication service tax and vat, he is bringing in e-transaction levies then he will reverse the gains of financial inclusion.

Haruna Iddrissu also said that when you project revenue from 53 billion to 80 billion in one year the market and Ghanaians have listened to you but this budget doesn’t alleviate their sufferings in anyway.

He concluded that the finance minister would be credited in the Guinness Book  of World Record for borrowing more than any minister under the fourth republic.

The minority leader prior to the presentation of the 2022 budget had cast doubt on Ghanaians reaping any benefits from the budget.
