The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) has set January 2, 2022 as date for commencing registration of vehicles for the year 2022 with the suffix “-22”.

The authority in its bid to ensure that the registration process runs smoothly void of long delays and crowding at various registration centres, set forth the process in two stages.

Stage 1 (To be initiated from December 1, 2021 and beyond)

  1. Present vehicle at any authorized Vehicle Testing Station for equipment-based testing.
  2. Present vehicle at any DVLA registration centre for Customs Checks and Clearance, vehicle inspection and validation,
  3. DVLA officials will generate invoice for service.

Stage 2 (To be completed in January 2022)

  1. Make payments by cash at the DVLA office or any other electronic platform including VISA card and Mobile Money.
  2. Capture of biometric details at the DVLA registration centre.
  3. Collect registration documents (Certificate of Title, Vehicle Registration Biometric Card, Vehicle Roadworthiness Certificate), License plate(s) and other ancillary items.

The authority added in its statement that “all customs and other supporting documents required shall be in their original version with the National Identification Card (Ghana Card) as the primary identity document.

“All persons duly authorised to transact business for and on behalf of vehicle owners, shall present a Power of Attorney and an ID for verification.”

While assuring that Covid-19 safe protocols would be strictly adhered to during the period of registration, the DVLA warned the public against engaging middlemen popularly known as “Goro boys” to avoid fraud.
