A 19-year-old student of Three Town Senior High School at Denu in the Volta region has been convicted by an Aflao Circuit Court for stabbing an Information Communication Technology (ICT) teacher.

The court presided over by Joseph Ofosu on Tuesday November 30, 2021 sentenced the accused, Gilbert Akakpo, to 4 years imprisonment with hard labour.

According to the Prosecution, on Wednesday August 11, 2021 the Senior House Master of the school reported to the police in Denu that Gilbert Akakpo a Visual Art and final year student, stabbed John Akey Kwashi with a cutter on his left upper arm when the teacher tried preventing the accused from bullying some first-year students.

The prosecution added that the ICT teacher sustained a deep cut on the arm and was sent to Ketu South Municipal Hospital for treatment.

The convict was later handed to the police by his father and subsequently sent to court on Thursday, August 12, 2021, for prosecution.

The judge, Joseph Ofosu, in his ruling stated that the court was lenient on the convict as a first-time offender, however, the punishment was necessary to serve as a deterrent to other students who have no respect for authorities in schools.

Gilbert Akakpo awaits his covid-19 test result to be conveyed to Ho Central Prison to begin serving the sentence.
