‘Black star films: Ghana film industry rebranded

The Ghanaian film industry has launched a new name for the industry after years of deliberations.

The launching was held on Wednesday, December 8,2021 by the National film Authority (NFA), “Black star films”was announced as the name for the industry.

Speaking at the official launch, chairperson of the Brand Name committee, Prof. Audrey Gadzekpo declared that the name came after a year of putting together a process for choosing the brand name.

The NFA asked the public to submit names they think can best represent the Ghanaian film industry. The question generated over four hundred (400) submissions from the public and was narrowed down to ten (10) by the Brand Name committees.

According to Prof. Audrey Gadzekpo the committee considered some factors before approving the name.

The factors include attribute, originality, communication, conjure an image, positive emotional connection anytime the public hears of the name “Black star films”.

She added that the name that had the most vote won.

The mission of the name is premises on the fact that having an identity as an industry is very important to ensure that efforts being put into building solid structures will have a cutting – edge
merits.

Speaking to the CEO of the NFA, Yaa Asantewa Asante she quoted Mr. Kwaw Ansah saying the ‘Black star films’ represent who Ghanaian are as a people and embodies their spirit.

She added that Ghanaians should expect that film makes would adopt the name and use it.
“Ghanaians are the Black star of Africa ” she said,

No more Kumahood and Ghallyhood but ‘Black star films’.
