The Bono Region has recorded 89 Covid -19 deaths between 2020 and 2021.

Out of this number, the Covid-19 has claimed 88 lives in just 2021.

The Ghana Health Service and its partners in the Bono Region have therefore expressed renewed zeal to stop the spread of the coronavirus to reduce the impact the COVID-19 disease has on the people in the region and Ghana as a whole.

As at December 6, 2021 the Bono region has recorded a cumulative total of 2,124 Covid-19 cases with only two active cases currently.

The region’s positivity rate stands at 27.7%.

At the moment over 390,985 doses of vaccines have been made available for all districts in the Bono region.

Speaking at a news conference in Sunyani as part of the vaccination month and an orientation of the media on the second phase of the Covid-19 vaccine rollout by the Bono Regional Ghana Health Service, the Acting Deputy Director of Public Health, Dr. Prince Quarshie, attributed the surge in deaths to the lack of advanced equipment as well as drugs to manage the cases.

Dr. Quarshie noted that as the disease dwindles, it begins to take on new forms and variants some of which are deadly.

The trend has shown that each variant that is discovered is deadlier than the last as proven by the Delta and Omicron variants.

Explaining factors that could have exacerbated the deaths he added that people have stopped the social distancing and nose masks wearing.

The Regional Director of Health Services, Dr. Kofi Amo-Kodieh, also stated that over 500,000 people will be vaccinated in the region to attain herd immunity.

Dr. Amo-Kodieh noted that there are some pastors deceiving the masses that the vaccines represent the mark of the beast as described by the bible but he wants to tell the public that it is not true.

He also disclosed that some people are taking the vaccine cards but have not been vaccinated.

He described them as ‘wicked people’ and warned that the BNI are investigating and would soon get them arrested.

While encouraging everyone to get vaccinated, he said that now persons who are 12 years can now be vaccinated with the Pfizer vaccine.
