Film authority boss foresees Ghana soon becoming global film hub

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of National Film Authority (NFA) Juliet Asante says her outfit is committed to making Ghana a film and content hub as well as world’s shooting destination.

She made this known on Wednesday December 8, 2021 when announcing the brand name for the Ghana Film Industry, a programme which was held at Gold Coast Restaurant in Accra.

The Authority unveiled the new name for the industry as “Black Star Films” which according to them represents who Ghanians are as a people .

Speaking to Madam Juliet, she said “the brand name was an agenda to set up Ghana as a film hub, a content hub and a shooting destination”.

According to her, in no point in history had the industry taken a deliberate effort to choose a brand name, and to position Ghana as a film hub there was a need for deliberate act to brand the sector.

Adding on, she said along the line the film industry had lost its audience and Ghanaians had lost faith in the sector though it is a great sector for job opportunities. A deliberate act was therefore taken to engage Ghanaians by a committee headed by Professor Audrey Gadzipko to choose a name that represents Ghanians and the sector.

Narrating how the authority came to settle on the brand name, Madam Juliet noted that 400 names were presented to the committee. The number was narrowed down to 10 names from which “Black Star films” was chosen.
