Sawla: Two armed robbers shot dead, others being pursued

The Sawla Police in the Savannah Region shot dead two suspected armed robbers during an exchange of fire between the two on Sunday December 12, 2021.

A statement from the Ghana Police Service (GPS) noted that the police is on the heels of other accomplices who managed to escape.

Upon inspection of the two bodies, a Covid-19 vaccination card disclosed that one of the deceased suspects is a 20-year-old bearing the name Yussif Bolii while the other is yet to be identified.

The police statement read as follows:

“Following a distress call about a robbery attack at Weichao, the police in partnership with some community members immediately responded and pursued the suspects who were on motorbikes. The suspects engaged the police in a shootout leading to the death of the suspects. However, others managed to escape the you the bushes”.

The two bodies have since been deposited at the Damongo morgue for preservation and autopsy.

According to ACP Kwesi Ofori, who signed the statement, the Sawla Police command is working hand in hand with the chiefs and community members to arrest the remaining suspects who are believed to have sustained gunshot wounds.

He also stated that the police administration applauds the collaborative efforts between the Sawla Police Command as well as chiefs and community members.

Meanwhile, ACP Ofori has assured the people of Sawla-Tuna-Kalba that adequate security measures are being fashioned to keep them safe from notorious criminals.
