Yilo Krobo chief laments lack of leadership in communities

Nene Nanekey Terkpertey Ofori Agor IX

Divisional Chief of Okperpiem division under the Yilo krobo traditional area of the Eastern region, Nene Nanekey Terkpertey Ofori Agor IX has stated that the underdevelopment witnessed in the Yilo Krobo Municipality is due to lack of leadership qualities in the area.

According to him the situation has led to a total “system failure” resulting in lack of progress and development in the area.

He made this in an interview with Angel news reporter Opambour Jaman Dehyee over the weekend at the Okperpiem durbar ground at his royal coronation in Somanya.

Nene Nanekey Terkpertey said that most leaders and authorities of Yilo krobo only pursue issues for their own selfish interest and not the interest of the people they serve.

This, he indicated is the reason for many unresolved challenges confronting the municipality.

The divisional chief then cited the renewed long-existing impasse between residents and Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) leading to the power service distributors relocating from Somanya to Juapong in the Volta Region following threats by a pressure group calling itself United Krobo Foundation (UKF).

He also underscore the irregularities in tap flowing from the Ghana Water Company that serves communities in the area [once every week and once every month] as a case study which leaders have failed to find a lasting solution to the menace.

That notwithstanding, Nene Nanekey Terkpertey, justify his claim by adding “for a municipality [Yilo] to be considered the worse performing municipality in Ghana, I don’t think it is the best.”

He also called on the youths and leaders in the area to unite and double-up their performance to help build and pursue the agenda for Yilo krobo.

In other developments, he noted that Yilo Krobo has been left in a state of “anarchy” and “lawlessness” because the youth have ventured into social vices such as drug abuse and teenage pregnancy.

Finally, Nene Nanekey Terkpertey Ofori Agor IX asked authorities to find measures to the problems to help “build a developed Yilo Krobo” since one can not leave in a glass house and still throw stones.
