5 perish in road crash on Accra-Kumasi highway

Five persons have been reported dead in a ghastly accident involving three vehicles on the Accra-Kumasi Highway at Akim Anyinase, a town in the Abuakwa North Municipality in the Eastern Region.

The incident occurred at about 9:30am on Thursday, December 16, 2021.

It involved an unregistered Toyota Corolla, Toyota Hiace passengers’ bus and a Pathfinder aboard by a senior Police officer identified as Ransford Duah.

According to the Assembly Member for Anyinasin electoral area, Isaac Okyere, the Toyota Corolla, which was overspeeding attempted to overtake a stationary cargo truck before the incident occurred.

He added that, it was in the process, the vehicle collided with the Pathfinder leaving the Toyota Hiace with passengers aboard which was closely following to crash and somersault multiples times.

Three male and two female passengers in the Toyota Hiace died instantly while others including occupants of the two private vehicles sustained severe injuries.

Other victims who sustained various degrees of injuries have been sent to the Kibi government hospital and Savior Memorial hospital in Osiem for treatment.

Police officers from the Motor Transport and Traffic Department (MTTD) of the Kyebi Police Command, with support of residents of Anyinase intervene and extricated the vehicles.
