2021 AFCON: ABN secures right to telecast live matches

One of Ghana’s leading media firms, Angel Broadcasting Network (ABN), has acquired broadcasting rights to the 33rd edition of Confederation of African Football (CAF) TotalEnergies 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.

The right to telecast live matches and run commentaries respectively on the games of the tournament was secured on Friday, January 7, 2022.

The head of sports at Angel 102.9 fm in Accra, Saddick Adams, known in the media landscape as Sports Obama, led management of the media house to sign the required documents and arrangement for the greenlight to the AFCON broadcast right.

Signing of the documents was was made possible at the Boardroom of the Ghana Broadcasting Cooperation (GBC) in Accra.

ABN is expected to broadcast all 52 matches live and in full high-definition with special focus on team Ghana as usual through its 18 radio stations and two digital channels, Angel TV and One HD TV, to give its cherish viewers and listeners the best coverage of Africa’s prestigious tournament.

The 33rd edition of the Africa Cup of Nations organized by the CAF will be played in Cameroon between January 9 to February 6, 2022.

The delayed tournament was rescheduled to January 2022 following the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic across the continent. The name 2021 Africa Cup of Nations was however retained for sponsorship purposes.

With Algeria as the defending champions, 24 teams will battle for the ultimate prize for the TotalEnergies 2021 Africa Cup of Nations which is to be played in five cities (Douala, Yaoundé, Bafoussam, Garoua, and Limbe) across Cameroon.
